Student Gamecock Television
SGTV is the fully-student run television station at the University of South Carolina.
At SGTV, I’ve held multiple leadership roles including Training Director, Engagement Director, Program Director, and Executive Producer of SGTV’s flagship news broadcast, Student News at Seven. I’ve gained experience on both live and pre-recorded productions, as well as field reporting outside the studio.
Below are some of my favorite projects I've worked on with the station!
SGTV 2024 Election Coverage
When I stepped into the Program Director role at SGTV, I knew I wanted to do something special for our election coverage. Collaborating with our News Director, we organized a team of nine reporters to cover the polls. This team created a mix of short-form Instagram reels and content for our YouTube channel!
One of the things I love most about student media is the teamwork that brings it all together. Our Election Day coverage was a perfect example of that!
Student News at Seven
Student News at Seven is SGTV's flagship news broadcast including news, sports, and entertainment segments covering the Columbia and USC community. I shadowed on SNAS several times as a freshman, later joining the permanent cast as an associate producer. I eventually worked my way up to the role of Executive Producer for the Thursday night broadcast in the Spring 2024 semester!
During my time at SGTV, this show has experienced tremendous growth, striving to replicate a more authentic newscast to provide valuable experience for student journalists. Check out a few of the best episodes that I've produced!
Monday Night Mashup
During my time as SGTV's Training Director, I was tasked with being a primary producer on the station's live show aimed for new members, Monday Night Mashup. As a Training Director, it was incredibly gratifying to nurture the skills of SGTV's new members. As a producer, it presented some challenges.
Through producing this show, I took on a challenge of elevating the quality of the broadcast to prepare these budding journalists for bigger projects, such as SGTV's flagship show, Student News at Seven.
Overall, working on MNM is one of the most fulfilling experiences I've had as a producer. These episodes are a few of my personal favorites!
